Pothole

The spectre of potholes along our roads is becoming an all too familiar encounter for us all. The recent spate of storms, before, during and after Christmas has wreaked havoc across Wiltshire and we are all having to weave our way around the County. In light of this national problem, the Government is providing Local Authorities with an extra £8.3 billion specifically for resurfacing roads. This funding is in addition to transport funding from the last Spending Review and on top of what authorities were expecting to receive.

In total Wiltshire will receive an additional £27 million for improving the state of our roads in the current financial year. This represents a 30% increase on last year. There is a lot to do but I am pleased that central Government is making such a substantial commitment to the highways.

I have also, recently, been in discussion with Wiltshire Council about the road network, and in particular: the A338, the traffic in and around Marlborough, the never ending M4 to Dorset Coast Strategic Study, the brilliant ('on demand') Wiggly Bus in the Pewsey Vale and, of course, potholes. Based on a system of road safety and prioritising main routes, temporary and permanent repairs are being made as quickly as possible.

You can report any potholes using MyWilts which you can find here. More details about Wiltshire Council's highways management plans can be found here.

Getting around and getting online

Connectivity is key to a place like Wiltshire. Our market towns and villages, and our outlying farms and cottages, depend on decent transport and decent broadband.  I probably get more correspondence about potholes than any other subject.
