I met with Charlotte from Action for River Kennet to talk about the state of our rivers and the valuable work they do locally to help improve things. One very important point came up, which was the decision by the current Government not to go ahead with the Water Restoration Fund. This fund, put foward by the previous Government, was to be a collection pot for the fines raised from water companies. This pot would then be allocated back to the catchments from where it came, to be spent on schemes and projects to improve our rivers. The recent fine levied on Thames Water would have been able to provide a huge amount of benefit to the areas they manage, but will now go back to the Treasury.
